The Atlantic has a love-hate relationship with men’s economic contributions. The magazine alternates between gloating that feminism has destroyed men’s economic status once and for all, and worrying that men are no longer fulfilling their traditional roles as bread winners.

Why isn't Carl good enough?

Both feminists and family values conservatives tend to see the explosion in out of wedlock births as a problem, and both are certain that women are being forced to choose broken homes over marriage because men aren’t worth marrying. To both, the women of our modern feminist era are desperate to commit for life and honor traditional marriage vows, if only there were men fit to marry. The feminists at Slate’s DoubleX lay it on thick when describing Lily, a pregnant woman uninterested in marrying or even remaining with the father (Carl) of her soon to be born child (emphasis mine):

When Lily looks around at the available men, they don’t offer what she is looking for. Lily, just like better-off men and women, believes that marriage means an unqualified commitment to the other spouse. When you marry someone, you support him in hard times. You stick with him when he disappoints you. You visit him if he ends up in jail. And you encourage him to become an important part of your children’s lives. It’s just that Lily doesn’t believe that Carl is worth that commitment. Nor does she believe that she will meet someone who will meet her standards anytime soon, and the statistics back her up.

This is of course pure (and laughable) conjecture on the part of the authors, as Lily has done nothing to even remotely suggest she believes in the commitment of traditional marriage. Why do they assume that a woman who is deliberately having a child out of wedlock has a higher level of commitment to marriage than women who manage to avoid giving birth out of wedlock? If Lily is the face of women who believe in traditional marriage, what would a woman who rejected marriage look like?

Women Surpassing Men, Poor Women Suffering For It

Ms. Bolick laid it out, saying, "If, in all sectors of society, women are on the ascent, and if gender parity is actually within reach, this means that a marriage regime based on men's overwhelming economic dominance may be passing into extinction."

A cause to rejoice? Only future years will tell.

Marriage has never really been based simply on men’s “overwhelming economic dominance.” As long as men were economically dominant (a period that only lasted a few generations in any event) they were not allowed to divorce without very stiff penalties. However, marriage has always been based on male dominance in general, because it is the only setup in which women feel secure, happy and content to stay with their men. As soon as women are made dominant – or even equal – in their marriages, marriage self-destructs.

As the awful truth about human nature begins to reveal itself, an entire generation of women find themselves crying into their chablis as the credits of the latest episode of Mad Men roll by. It is becoming apparent that what we are witnessing is not so much “The End of Men” as it is the desolation of the feminist dream.

Let's find a way to automate education ... and eliminate the jobs of thousands of Elementary Ed teachers everywhere ... who are really overpaid baby sitters anyway.

We could even automate the jobs that are being held by all those women with Bachelor's in Psychology ... oh wait, Wendy's is working on that already.

"Would you like fries with that ?" will soon be a recorded message on the screen of a Wendy's self-order kiosk.

Alot of the white collar jobs are being automated too and others are being shipped to third world countries thanks to the data transmission available now with the internet.

Women shouldn't be so smug.

"They found that manufacturing declines significantly affected the supply of what they termed “marriageable” men—men who are not drinking or using drugs excessively and who have a job. (...) the numbers of marriageable men relative to women declined, because men had migrated elsewhere, joined the military, or fallen out of the labor force."

How many in which category? The article treats men who moved away as the same problem as being junkie. Social problems like alcoholism and drugs are talked about as if they would be same as being unemployed. It is odd conflation, it is not the same, not even nearly.
