You're targeting the wrong thing here.

The "man" in "manhandle" refers to a human, not specifically a male. It is feminists who objected to this use of "man" in words (because they incorrectly insisted that "man" must be referring to an adult male, claiming the usage was sexist).

Although their claim was bogus, they succeeded in reducing this usage of the word to the point that many who grew up in the last couple of decades assume that "man" in a word means "adult male" by default.

The stupid thing is that there was already a gender neutral word and no need for clunky substitutes such as "fisher" for "fisherman" or "chair/chairperson" for "chairman." More women simply needed to come into those jobs for assumptions to change. But no. Instead of further cementing the gender neutral usage of the word "man," the fact that it can also mean "male" made the word unpalatable to feminists.

Already, when used in verbs like "manhandle" the words were fully seen as gender neutral. All feminists have achieved there is to introduce an assumption about gender (with some younger people) where one didn't exist before.

The really objectionable thing about the use of the word "manhandle" here is that the word refers to moving someone roughly by pushing or dragging, not to violently assaulting them. They are downplaying what the woman did by choosing to only use that verb in the title.
