I don't think all the variables are at play here. It said he was a new employee. Did he inform his boss upon his signing that his wifes due date was 1/1/17? Another article says "Lindsay said she was surprised her son was born on his due date." During the interview process the guy should of informed his boss that he understands New Years is an extremely busy day for security firms but that his child's due date is that day and he will not be missing the birth of his kid (any employer even the biggest asshole in the world would understand and appreciate being forewarned) From the few articles I have read it looks like he did not spring it on his boss until last minute. Something that is extremely unprofessional. Personally I have hired a guy once who neglected to tell me he was having a kid. Boom a week later I show up to a job and i'm down an essential person. Finally get a call from him hours later stating his wife just gave birth and he had neglected to tell myself, HR or any of the other employees.

Salerno Protective Services provides security to clients including stores and college campuses." I hate to say it but again it gives no indication that he informed his employer that his wife was having a kid. When you get an on call 24/7 job you need to accept the responsibilities that comes with that.

I hate to see stories like this but my heart is warmed by people stepping up and offering them jobs, raising funds, etc.

The company will certainly regret this decision. The power of social media is strong.
