I cringe when I see men and husbands portrayed as borderline retards, while the wife smugly grins and shows the dummy how wrong he is. Any sensible person should feel the same way. Rarely do they show masculine and competent males, especially in households. I don't care if a commercial every once in a while pokes fun at a man, but the smug implication that your husband is probably a moron too gets me.

I like the examples of ads "ridiculing women." The fist (Ashley Madison) hardely mentions women (just repeating the line "I am looking for someone, other than my wife") and only shows female profile pictures. And the second, shows two women playing a joke on their boyfriends who fell asleep (by separating themselves from them and putting the two men together). I could see an argument the second was poking fun at men, or homosexuallity, though it would take some effort, but it is not portraying the women in a bad light.

Refers to Australian ad standards bureau which I guess is a federal government thing.

To be fair, they are portraying the wife as someone looking to hire a stranger to murder her husband and it's a man who recognizes the absurdity of the request. IMO, the wife is the asshole in this ad, so I would say it's more bigoted toward women than men.
