Obviously not a direct sexual strategy question. I have self taught experience with ruby, rails, JavaScript and web dev as background, so I'm not starting from scratch.

I have an idea for an MVP that I want to bang out in Wordpress. I installed mamp and got a basic site running locally and spent some time fiddling around with it adding plugins and themes. Became obvious that the plugins I was looking into didn't quite have the functionality I wanted. Googled around and there's a lot of stuff out there for Wordpress.

I learn from doing, reading and/or videos. What do you recommend to get quickly up to speed in setting up a good Wordpress site and then diving into plugin modification/development. Theme info would also be appreciated.
