Interesting. But are all of these quotes from 1987? I would imagine the FBI tracks rape reports very well nowadays. Though not false reports.

Well, there is this:

https://www.ncjrs.gov/txtfiles/dnaevid.txt

It's not a statement on all reports, but it is interesting that when they check, DNA testing exonerates 1 in 4 of those tested.

Thanks for bringing that up. That is one of the most interesting reports, and statistics regarding false reporting, out there.

Unlike the other stats on rape and false rape accusations which amount to lower bounds, the stat that one in four dna samples tested by the fbi lab exonerates the accused is a direct estimate of prevalence.

When Janet reno died a few weeks ago, I tried to point out that she deserved a lot of credit for taking an active interest in the plight of the falsely convicted. She was clearly on team law enforcement, but not only wrote a great forward to the report you linked, she also worked with the innocence project after leaving office. How many former prosecutors have you ever heard make a stink about false convictions, let alone work patiently to stop them and exonerate them?

I think MRAS should honor her.

I fear, given the political nature of the issue, no one will ever feel comfortable telling the truth.

I think people in general are uncomfortable thinking about the problem of false accusations and convictions. Prosecutors, former prosecutors, and more generally people on "team law enforcement" are going to be even less so (seeing as how any knowledge on their part would require them to act, which would undermine the authority they wield).

I find it amazing that Janet Reno worked as hard as she did to shed light upon the problem of false convictions.
