This whole 'opt out' thing is barely feasible in practice. The logistics are insane.

Why not go 'opt in'? As in, a man is not liable for a child unless he has given his enthusiastic, and written, consent beforehand? With the obligatory post-natal DNA test, cause the agreement is for his child, not a child.

No more surprise pregnancies, no more shotgun marriage, no more paternal discrepancies.

Which are all the reasons this will never happen.

Then again, this would kill birth rates in the West, which, as countries, we can ill afford.

I don't really expect to see male prior consent until male contraception is practically available, as it will kill birth rates anyway, for mostly the same reasons.

Also, expect heavy political and social resistance to male contraception. Female social resistance, as they'll lose the exclusive power of decision on pregnancy.

Is vasectomy reliably reversible now? Or did you freeze some sperm?

I didn't know it existed.

As for kids, well, to each his own (pun intended). I always knew I was a father. Probably more so than a husband, sad as this may be for my spouse. I was just afraid my kids would be like me.

Funny thing is, they are. And it's a good thing.

.

frankly I think its a good idea to make reversing them expensive

I see your point, but it's also unavailable to most men at a few grands a pop. Arguably, considering the ongoing cost of children.

That's the thing. Children are (to most people) an ongoing cost, while your procedure takes a little planning and saving.

Sadly, this is beyond 80% of the population. Unless it gets sold on a 20% revolving credit.

Now to be clear, I do not say men shouldn't be held accountable for the actions.

I do not say woman should have all the power when ut comes to decisions regarding pregnancy.

I am not arguing morality of abortions, contraceptives, promiscuity or religious beliefs.

I strongly disagree with a lot I seen on subs like this, as I do on feminist subs but I whole heartedly believe there should be an open dialogue and the right to express opinion.

What I want to know is, what do you think of "financial abortion"? Yes it takes two to tango but do you believe there is an inherent risk of pregancy as a result of sex that should be taken into consideration?

Do you believe that "financial abortion" harms the woman or the child more? Is it comparable to the strain an unwanted child places on a man?

I'm genuinely curious to get some different perspectives on such a complicated issue.

Quick Edit: Just for demonstration, I belive that as it takes TWO people to make a baby, TWO people should make the decision. One party should not hold all the power. I've personally seen men get trapped by sabotaged birth control and it's disgusting.

I believe abortion is fine, life begins at birth and that an unwanted and negelected child is far worse off than an unborn one. Others will vehemently disagree and I'm happy for them to do so!

One final note is that child support is for the child. The court will rule in the childs best interest and go from there. This could be a problem because would that mean that taxpayers would need to pick up the biological fathers metaphorical slack in the event financial abortion became a real thing.
