I couldn't agree more. Why women think that employers should wear the cost of them having children is beyond me. Women of my mother's generation never had any provisions for maternity leave and they managed to have and raise children successfully. Why do mdoern women need their employers to chip-in for them to have babies. One explanation was that in my mom's day, pretty much all pregnant women were married and thus had a husband to financially support them during pregnancy and in the early stages of motherhood. Back then, unmarried pregnant women were rightly shunned as a blight on society. Knowing this precious few women were dumb enough or irresponsible enough to get pregnant without a husband. Fast forward to the modern era whereby huge numbers of single women are popping out bastards, and someone needs to pay for it. Given that most women live beyond their means, there is no way they are going to be paying for it. The government doesn't want the cost of single moms. More often than not, modern women get knocked up by unemployable or irresponsible dipshits who have no intention or capacity whatsoever to support them. Pretty much the only option left is for employers to foot the bill. Not that I agree with the above but that's the way it happens. Quite frankly, with the excpetion of the relatively few talented women out there, most emplyers are far better off employing men or women not of childbearing age.

Zomg! How dare you blaspheme against the cult of baby!

I have my severe distaste with pregnant women in the workforce and how they make it so that real hard working women have a harder time getting employed because the employer will assume that she will get pregnant (maternity leave is highly expensive for a company). These are also the same women who bitch about never seeing promotions while refusing to put in their full hours.

Most non-American governments have a program that provides paid parental leave. And most of the better ones let both the mother and father split it equally. Some even have dedicated components for each specific parent.

The highly messed up state of American parental leave is a fairly localised situation. John Oliver did a segment about it a little while ago that's actually pretty informative.

Hope you feel the same way when you have a heart attack at age 50. You do understand that women get sick having babies a little sooner, and then hope to return to work, but men get sick with heart attacks and strokes and cancer a little later. A lot sooner than women do. Who is holding down the fort then? When you are the one out of work for a couple months? What comes around goes around. Be careful what you ask for. You might just get it.
