How can I determine who is a good friend and who is not?

Do you play a sport? I know back when I was in highschool if you played a sport you had to be passing all of your classes. This would naturally defer you from the kids who don't care about their future.

Also the teammates that I had back in highschool for 4 years are now some of my best friends to this day. Play a sport if you can.

Also go to school events. Go to football games, hockey games, etc and meet new people. My highschool had over 4000 kids in it and I had friends from all different groups. Friends in the band, friends on other sports teams, my sports teams, clubs, and just random classmates I got to know throughout the year.

Pick your friends though. You seem like you know who the good and bad kids are in your school.

Also for outside of school, join a gym. One of the main rules of TRP is to lift. When I joined a gym I made some more friends because I saw them there often. So join a gym.

This one is a bit out there but see if you can play an instrument. Pick up guitar and maybe find someone who plays bass or the drums and start jamming with them.

These are all things i've done but i'm from a huge town so its naturally easier for me.

Test them constantly.

Never put all your chips on a bet that depends on somebody being loyal to you. Especially not in some big emotional way. Assume they won't be and plan both ways, to be pleasantly surprised and love your true friends even more. It's natural to get fucked over from time to time, everybody gets got. But it's unmasculine to get fucked over by people's natural disloyalty and then cry about it, like a victim. You want to be in a position where you can afford the occasional stab in the back, to be kinder to people and understand they're no angels.

You can devise a lot of wonderful little tests to help you filter out the muck and find out who your people really are. It's a constant background neverending thing, if someone pleased you once it doesn't mean they're now trusted forever. You still test at resonable intervals, without them knowing.

Reward your friends with everything you got and then some, when they come through for you. You've got to learn that noble feeling where you're embarassed by somebody being exceptionally good to you, yet being unable to lavishly repay them. It should eat at your soul like fucking acid, until you can outdo them in return kindness.
