To the outside observer, Heard has been the perfect plaintiff, providing evidence and documentation of the abuse while remaining as mum as possible to the media.

Heard has been targeted by the press because her actions were incredibly callous, her timing is basically perfect to obtain a pay-out, and she has so far provided essentially zero proof of her allegations.

Papers don't necessarily want to be associated with her if shite should hit the fan, and they probably think it will.

Also, Depp still has a major career. Papers will want interviews with him in the future, which he may very well withhold selectively.

Heard has a (even) less talented Knightley look-a-like thing, which will fade soon enough and never make her influential in Hollywood.

What differentiates magazines from true, ideological SJW is that they're not stupid enough to bite the hand that feeds.

Of course it totally couldn't be for the reasons given. Denying the abuse just proves she was abused.
