Hell, I think the whole "unwanted attention is a hate crime" thing is so incredibly topsy turvy, I can't even seem to think what harmful things it actually does adress.

Well, it depends on what you mean by dressing seductively. Wearing heels, fishnets, and a super cleavage bearing top? Maybe. But a lot of women who would be considered very attractive are either simply following popular fashion trends or have a good sense of fashion to begin with. There are many women who are arguably unnatractive who can doll themselves up as much as they want and never achieve attention from men, and then women who only have to dress themselves a step above jeans and a t-shirt for the compliments to begin. Looking attractive/beautiful and wearing something blatantly seductive are not one and the same. Many women who don't dress in a "slutty" way but simply groom themselves well will be just as attractive, if not more attractive, to men.

This sounds dangerously like the argument that women should intentionally dress frumpy to repell men, or that it's a woman's fault for being raped if she dressed well that night. But if you think about it, that argument doesn't sound very fair at all. Some women like to wear makeup for them, because it makes them feel good. Some women do it as a hobby because they really enjoy it, others do it just so they can feel normal compared to other women. A lot of women spend time preening and going to great lengths to make sure their hair, makeup, and clothing look good because they know they won't be taken seriously in a professional setting if they don't. It's actually kind of a catch-22: dress in an unflattering way and don't do your hair and makeup and you seem "unenthusiastic" and not put together, try to make yourself look nice and you're at worst a bimbo, at best that pretty girl that shouldn't complain when she receives obvious attention/flattery from men that makes her uncomfortable. Walking that tightrope and striking a balance can be tough, and soon enough you realize that you're not actually doing anything for yourself anymore, but for strangers you don't even know.

A beautiful woman is not a painting, but a person. End of story. She isn't decoration, and characterizing any human being in those terms is actually very demeaning. It is not against your "human rights" that men are held to some standard about how they treat women - for example, not gazing blank-faced at her chest like a creep in plain daylight, or catcalling her, or making sexual comments towards her when she obviously just wants to get on with her day. In some settings, like the grocery store or on the sidewalk, most women really don't want to hear those kinds of things. Even if the guy is attractive, you never know who's in a relationship, or who isn't looking for one for whatever personal reason they may have, or who feels awkward and uncomfortable with flirtation in general.

As someone who is both a woman who has been hit on by dudes before and gay, I can assure you that keeping those comments and observations to yourself... Really isn't that hard. You just keep your mouth shut sometimes, never forget that the "decoration" in front of you is a person with thoughts and feelings, and then suck it the fuck up and just enjoy people's company. It's not rocket science.
