What a lot of people forget too is that some of the men in this photograph probably didn't have the right to vote either. The Representation of the People Act 1884 did not grant males universal suffer age as there was still a property qualifier. According to Wikipedia 40% of men had no right to vote. So on 1st July 1916 a large proportion of men died without ever seeing a ballot box
