The history I was taught at school and the media I have been exposed to since never mentioned the general suffrage movement. That part of history has been whitewashed and I was not aware until last year that all men in the UK only got to vote in 1918, after millions sacrificed their lives or physical and mental wellbeing in defence of the country. There's a difference of a couple of decades here and there in other parts of the world, but it really was an eye-opener.

I would say that most people in the UK today thought that all men could vote for a lot longer than a single decade and that no women could vote until 1928. That is simply untrue and actually the Pankhursts probably delayed universal suffrage by only wanting it specifically for upper middle class women. Not poor women or poor men.

I do think that a men's history month is appropriate in order to highlight this hidden history which includes what it meant to be an ordinary man in decades/centuries past. People point at the actions of kings (but not queens) as evidence of some kind of inherent male badness, but don't seem to look at working communities, for example surrounding mines were men would share their earnings with other families in self-structured social frameworks. Where they would walk for miles every day to see if they were lucky enough to be picked for a days work or not.

The kind of environment where the offer of a stable wage as a soldier in times of war was a blessing in terms of being able to provide for his family. A forgotten history of self-sacrifice that deserves to be known.

because like 95% of all history is men doing a bunch of shit with the expectation of a few woman most history is male dominated .

There's a reason it's called HIStory. The reason is that it is mostly the doing of a bunch of "hes."
