I think people say eating disorders are more common in women then men, because they pretend that obsesity isn't the most common eating disorder of all, hell alot of people refuse to admit it is one, with fat pride.
Fat shamers are assholes, but the Fat pride people are too, with a side order of denial.
I'm a fat guy and I know its most likely what will kill me in the end.

women are at higher risk just because they are womyn!
It isn't a gender issue because this disproportionately affects women. I'm sorry to say, but you're making it an issue. That doesn't mean we shouldn't support men, or women, because EDs are serious and deadly.
I'm a male whos struggled with ED and my girlfriend is recovering from Anorexia. Her best friend has Anorexia and my sister's ex was a guy with bulimia. I know that it can affect anyone, but this is something that affects girls and women more.
Now there is a serious stigma against men because it's seen as a teenage girl problem, but there are also stigmas against women with EDs because they are supposed to have 'outgrown it' by then. We have to look at increasing awareness and improving treatment for both genders, but it's not an insult to men to want to look at the most heavily affected group with the most focus.
EDIT: That being said, we definitely need to improve conditions for men suffering. And I don't just mean 'bigorexia', but rather people understanding EDs.
A lot of people are under the impression that people must be vain, narcissistic, or selfish to develop something like AN or BN, but they are deeply rooted in control. People can lose control of their lives in numerous ways, and eating is something that you can have full control over. My girlfriend developed ED tendencies through overbearing parents and a desire to do something.
