they mention several times the high rate of suicide

Let's look more closely. You asserted the article gave multiple attention to the high rate among men.

But the first paragraph highlights women:

The rise was particularly steep for women.

The second paragraph highlights women, concentrating on rate delta (second derivative), not the rate itself, so as to give 63% increase to women and much less, 43%, to men:

The suicide rate for middle-aged women, ages 45 to 64, jumped by 63 percent over the period of the study, while it rose by 43 percent for men in that age range, the sharpest increase for males of any age.

The NYT thus leaves general readers with the idea of a more serious problem among women than among men.

The next gender-specific statement ignores the gender ratio and highlights girls:

Researchers also found an alarming increase among girls 10 to 14 ... “This one certainly jumped out,” said Sally Curtin, a statistician at the center and an author of the report.

The next three gender-specific comments emphasise the problem among women and dig out the one figure de-emphasising the problem among men (black males, one of the worst-off groups):

American Indians had the sharpest rise of all racial and ethnic groups, with rates rising by 89 percent for women and 38 percent for men.

White middle-aged women had an increase of 80 percent.

The rate declined for just one racial group: black men.

Then come the charts in which the NYT hides the male/female ratio by using different charts and different scales for the two genders.

There follow ** ~sixteen ** paragraphs about the general origins of suicide, with still not one word about the most salient fact: Men kill themselves at a rate 3 times that of women. That fact should have led the article. As well, in every sub-group the article discusses, it should have mentioned the raw gender ratio; it omitted these.

So, we both should have read more carefully; disgusted before reaching the last paragraph, I missed the one mention of the ratio. And you erred in asserting the NYT raised that issue "several times".

My point still stands: The NYT specialises in burying or omitting entirely facts not in agreement with its hyper-feminist ideology.
