Additionally, even if a person has committed rape, I personally believe that expulsion is not the best solution.

I'm a bit mystified as to how there are people who are rape sympathetic.

The pendulum swings ever on.

When it comes to campus rape, I believe that we would be best served by focusing the discourse on finding a more ethical solution that takes the needs and best interests of both parties into consideration.

You know, I think I get it now. She's not talking "rape rape", she's talking drunking consenting sex rape, or the kinds of "rape" that is basically "I didn't really wanna fuck but he wanted to so I let him slither all up in me".

I doubt she's talking about the type of rape that was considered true rape; the alley dragging or bedroom arm twisting and pinning, crying and struggling kind of rape that has been recognized rightfully as rape for 600 years, as opposed to "well I didn't say no and I spread my legs for him" types of rape.

More so, even if we could trust the investigative process, I still don’t believe expulsion should be the answer. In expelling someone we deem “dangerous,” we use a reductive conceptualization of justice: If you hurt me, I will make you pay.

In attempting to expel a person whom some deem “dangerous,” all we effectively do is geographically redistribute the threat. We simply force accused rapists to leave campus and strip them of their relationships on campus. And arguably, in expelling them, if we can manage to get them in the media, we also handicap their ability to make a living in the future.

All of this as a reprimand for what could have been a mistake seems misguided.

Remember, there's the soft rapes of mistake, and the hard rapes of brute force. /s

I love how the tone is, "rapists shouldn't be removed from campus, because we don't know what we're doing" and not "hey some of these guys may not actually be rapists, and colleges tribunals are incapable of determining guilt or innocence." She just presumes accused men are rapists.

On the plus side, this article and a speech Sulkowicz gave sound like they were written by someone who failed 8th grade English, and this is an ivy league school. Makes me feel pretty good about myself for being a regular, non-superior ivy leaguer

This lady has alot of courage, because she is going to get slammed hard for being honest.
