I remember a recent study that showed that women are twice as likely to be offered jobs as professors in STEM. So if academia is an "industry" then that's another example. I don't know of a study on the subject that looked at multiple industries, so you might have to aggregate the statistics yourself, if you can find them.

The phrase your looking for is "Affirmative Action" there are definitely records of this in the IT sector where they'll just basically try and hire any woman that can spell computer to make themselves look good even if that means turning away genuinely skilled people.

Let me think, there was one particular example I remember, where there was an Indian guy that was suspecting that the medical schools he applied to was using affirmitave action in their selection process. So he got his exact same CV, changed his photograph slightly to look more black and changed his name and made himself from South Africa or something.

He was immediately accepted on the exact same CV because rather than checking his qualifications and skills these schools were choosing their candidates based on ethnicity.
