"Being falsely accused is tantamount to being raped and why we need to prosecute those who lie" When you knowingly and intentionally accuse an innocent man of rape, you are attempting to have him locked in a cage for something that he did not do. You are exposing him to the very real possibility of physical retaliation, including rape and murder, for something he did not do. You are, whether he goes to jail or not, stripping him of his dignity, destroying his family, ripping away his livelihood, and FOREVER placing a cloud of guilt, suspicion, and shame around him. That is what a false rape accuser is trying to do. Whether or not she is successful, this is her PLAN. This is equally and possibly more evil than rape itself. It demonstrates forethought of malice, conspiracy of deception and shows despite the foolish dismissals from some people, rape accusation are more than just simple ‘slander.’ This isn't 1990 anymore, Google is FOREVER. They have the potential to completely ruin a man. To take everything from him, including his freedom, and maybe even his life. If you have never sat in prison for a rape you did not commit, you cannot know the pain and fear of that. If you have never seen your family fall apart, your job taken from you, your good name destroyed, your college career obliterated, your job prospects vanish, your friends and family look at you with suspicion, and your dignity demolished all because of the lies of a vengeful, vindictive person, you cannot know what it is like, so how can you justify mitigating these effects? If you have never been branded a violent sex offender for a sex offense you did not commit, you cannot know the agony of it. Why can’t we just admit that anyone in either scenario, a victim of rape or a person falsely accused of rape is a victim of a heinous crime committed by an awful, wretched, morally bankrupted person? I do not diminish rape, but if you diminish the suffering of those falsely accused, you should be ashamed of yourself and should seriously question your own moral compass. When you consider what a false accuser is attempting to do to her victim, it’s clear that the crime warrants a lengthy prison sentence. Not jail because they lacked the ability to prove a rape, but if it can be proven that the accusation was fabricated. If it can be proven that the person intentionally lied then she should be locked away for the same length of time the innocent man would have been imprisoned. Anything less is an absolute miscarriage of the fundamental principles of justice and redress. Not prosecuting those who fabricate accusations, only encourages, enables and empowers those who are considering to do so, and increases the frequency of it. Questioning the validity of an accusation of rape is not "rape apologizing" It's determining if the person making the accusation is being truthful and nothing more than that. Typically a false accusation is only brought to light when the accuser actually recants and confesses. No wonder they get to claim that false reporting is rare. What is really rare is women admitting they falsely accused an innocent man. I find it so very interesting that those who say being falsely accused is rare and not a very serious problem, is usually said by those who are virtually immune from it happening to them because of their gender. (yes I'm referring to you Feminists)

I’m now convinced rape and sexual assault should be treated differently from other crimes, and it follows that accusations of rape must be dealt with differently than accusations of other types of crime. False accusations of rape can destroy lives, it seems only fair that suspects should be afforded anonymity until convicted. The argument against this is that publicly naming the accused allows other victims to come forward, but that’s sloppy justice and what most would consider a "police fishing trip". Each case should stand on its own, and if the accused is convicted, then other victims can respond and the guilty can be tried for those crimes as well. For those who state that women rarely if ever lie about rape...I say.....I'm a woman and I know better, and you're trying to lie to me. Go ahead, try to prove me wrong about any point I've written here. I encourage you to do so.But don't bother telling me tales about, or conflating rates of false rapes with rates of false reports of other crimes. There is no "Robbery or Arson Offender Registry" that, in some places in North America the public can access on a whim, showing ones current address. Rape is unique, so stop pretending it's not when it's useful for your argument. it makes you sound dumb. Thanks, Alice.
