Honestly I don't see this as a pussy pass, They lost their teaching credentials for having sex with two of age men. I get the aider and abettor argument but feel that should be up to the employer or licensing board to enforce, not Law enforcement. to me for law enforcement it should be clear a cut sex with a minor situation.

I personally know of this exact situation in my home town that occurred when I was in High school. One of the male coaches had sex with a 16 year old, age of consent, female student. He basically received the exact same punishment. The really messed up part is he was the Youth director at his church and married with 2 very young children.

Agreed. I would make the same case for a male teacher. One of these boys was 18 and not even a student anymore, that's all kosher. The 17-yo slept with someone who wasn't his teacher, though she arranged it. The cocaine is the far more heinous crime here.

Calling an 18-yo a "teen" is trying to make him sound younger than he is. He is an adult in his late teens.

I agree with everything you guys are saying, except that it's not a pussypass. If they were men, they would have had an altogether different outcome. If only women get sane sentencing under such circumstances, it's a pass.

not sure I was like 17 at the time. I didn't give a damn there was important shit to do, like ride dirt bikes and attempt to impress the ladies. Mostly riding dirt bikes though.

My brother got involved with coke at 17. Did three bits in jail. He's a broken human, now.

You might just be looking at the sex, which is bad enough. But that kid may well be fucked in the addiction department and she introduced it to him.

The tone of the article is way off, too.

And to Bracic, the female ADA, sexual predators take kids away from their support systems to take advantage-- CHECK. Sexual predators attempt to influence kids with things like drugs and alcohol,-- CHECK.

TOTAL pussy pass.

It's not just the sex, though that's borderline. They supplied them with alcohol and cocaine and then banged 'em. They provided alcohol to people under the age of 21 (an offense that normally lands people in a heap of trouble), and they used and distributed an illegal substance (another big no-no). I can assure you, if I were caught doing that with 17-18 year old girls, even without fucking them, I'd get my ass packed off to prison for at least a few years. If I supplied the stuff and then fucked them, that would be portrayed as 'drugging 'em up and sexually assaulting them', with associated heavier punishment.

This is a flagrant case of a 'pussy pass'. One got 15 days of community service or 3 months in jail, the other got 6 months of rehab or 3 months in jail. This is for the sex, the alcohol, and the cocaine. Tell me again how this is not a slap on the fucking wrist.

“They acted foolish in this isolated incident,” (Deputy District Attorney Kristin) Bracic said, adding that the sex-offender registration requirement should be reserved for “sexual predators.”

Female DA slaps female teachers on the wrists who used their status to fuck teenagers on a camping trip, yet asserts they're not predators.

17 & 18 year old boys are probably sexually active already, so why didn't the teachers just go cougar on them outside of school-sponsored functions?

Beeeeecause they're predators.

And Jared got 15 years. lol. Unless I am mistaken... he paid for sex with minors? (16 year old... which isnt even illegal in Canada..) Not saying its ok.. but its a lot better than being in a position of power and providing drugs to help.

Sigh.

Don't forget about all the child porn on his computer.

There is a troubling disparity from 15 years to probation.

One thing it's true. Women who are pedos get off.

You've got to be shitting me, this is blatant pussypass by Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic, and the author of the article, Ken Stone, along with lanews.com. I'll detail this step by step.

1. The convicted criminals took responsibility early?

The two women were also rewarded for taking responsibility for their crimes relatively early in the legal process, Bracic said.

I've got to put this first, since it's perhaps the most important to the case and should be clear that these women first pleaded not guilty: "Teachers deny sex charges involving student on San Clemente beach trip".

Yet this article makes it seem like these women confessed right away and had instant regret, and this article doesn't mention this fact. You've got to read that article for better details, including the fact that she knew the kid was 17.

2. Conflating the actual sex crime of the 17 year old by repeatedly mentioning the 18 year old.

Although Lippert slept with someone who was 18, she was still charged with statutory rape as an “aider and abettor” of Ghirelli’s underage sex crime, Bracic said.

Described in terms of an excuse and emphasis on the age "18" which diminishes the statutory rape of the 17 year old.

Lippert was the “matchmaker” for Ghirelli, who had sex with a 17-year- old boy.

This is the kicker. Men are called pimps or co-conspirator or something. When was the last time two older adult men took advantage of younger women and one was called a "matchmaker"?

“The number one thing here is the victims are 17- and 18-year-old boys who are graduating next week and they just wanted to close this chapter in their lives as quickly as possible,” Bracic said, explaining why the plea deal was struck with the defendants. “They were happy to get it done once and for all.”

First of all, the 18 year old is NOT a victim in the eyes of the law, so why say that? Next, so the 17 year old boy, who was a VICTIM, felt shamed, and so the best way to deal with that shame is "get it over with quickly"??? What the hell type of support was given to this 17 year old young men to assert his right to pursue justice?

Also note, the entire thing is worded as "two teens" when, in fact, the only victim was the 17 year old! They are conflating and reducing the crime against the 17 year old by continually including him along with the 18 year old. To be clear, the 18 year old is an adult and is NOT a victim here. Not from the point of view of the law, in which he's a legal adult. If it was only the 18 year old, there would have been no sex charges at all in this case.

3. Marginalizing the criminal behavior and victim blaming.

“They acted foolish in this isolated incident,” Bracic said, adding that the sex-offender registration requirement should be reserved for “sexual predators.”

Again, the wording here diminishes their actions as "foolish".

“I know everyone looks at this like they were getting high fives in the hallway, but they were absolutely mortified and embarrassed,” Bracic said.

Why does Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic suggest that "everyone" looks at this as a non-crime? This marginalizes the crime and the victim. Furthermore, "absolutely mortified and embarrassed" is hardly the words one typically uses for statutory rape. Also note "embarassed" has a connotation of guilt. Deputy District Attorney Kristin Bracic is shaming the victim here.

Also, take a look at how a Google search shows how "mortified and embarrassed" is typically used. Here's a few random selections:

  • Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel 'mortified and embarrassed' by s sexist, derogatory emails.

He's mortified and embarrassed that his own emails were released to the public.

  • I feel so mortified and embarrassed about this what should i do? This was two months ago in high school (I'm 16) and I was talking to my friend who was supposed to be fasting in the gym. I asked her about her fasting while I was eating something. I didn't intend it that way, but someone said I was being rude.

He/she is mortified and embarrassed at doing something thought to be rude.

4. More shyte.

  • Lippert’s attorney, Leonard Levine, said his client is “ashamed and embarrassed by her actions for which she takes full responsibility. It cost her a promising and up to this point successful teaching career, and now she wants to move on to be a loving mother, wife and lead a productive life. And she’s very sorry for what has occurred.”

Note the similarity between "ashamed and embarrassed" and "mortified and embarrassed". Also, it's incredibly conciliatory to the convicted felon for the article to allow such a glowing and self promotion description.

5. Falsehoods promoted by lanews.com and Ken Stone (the author)

  • Ghirelli’s attorney, Stephan DeSales, previously told City News Service that his client is “devastated” and that it was not altogether clear to her that the victim was underage.

“There was a lot of stuff going on and it was not clear what the age of this kid was when whatever happened happened,” DeSales said.

The prior article indicates "Cell phone records also helped convince investigators that Ghirelli knew the boy was 17, [Deputy District Attorney Birac] said." The author of this newer article continues:

  • “She’s totally devastated,” DeSales said of his client. “She’s a sweet person, a very nice person who was getting her master’s degree at Cal Poly Pomona and now that’s all gone.”
