I'll be studying abroad this autumn in University of Oslo (UiO)

I wanted to know where I should live. Looking to build a social network and obviously pull.

Stats: 20/M | 6ft/182cm | 150lb/68kg | nationality: American | ethnicity: Pakistani | atheist

I don't drink or smoke for health reasons, so I don't know if I would be better off closer to campus.

Student Housing at Kringsjå or Sogn

Pros:

  • All the exchange students are here
  • Cheaper
  • 10-15 minutes from campus by bus, 5 minutes by Uber/bike
  • Right by nature: Nordmarka forest, Songsvann lake, mountains
  • On-campus bar and study lounge
  • Shared amenities to get to know neighbors
  • Social gatherings are put on to get to know neighbors

Cons:

  • Lower quality because it's old
  • Kringsja is 5 minutes to bus stop + 15 minute bus ride = 20 minutes from city. Sogn is 1km from the bus stop. Also have to factor in waiting for the bus, could end up being 40 minutes.
  • Far away from everything else

Student Housing at Grünerløkka

Pros:

  • Right in Oslo = Better logistics
  • Very vibrant area with bars, restaurants, cafés, markets, and parks
  • Higher quality
  • Transportation everywhere

Cons:

  • More expensive
  • Furthest from campus, 25-30 minutes by bus, 10-15 minutes by Uber/bike
  • Quieter and everything is private

If I missed anything or if I should take anything else into consideration, please let me know
