In my personal experience the shit test is for guys who are thinking about her or the interaction itself ( to get them nervous), Ignoring them might work if you don't suddenly seem nervous or sweaty.

As you said, girls use it in many different situations, It really is a sneaky shit test but it doesn't hold much weight on the interaction in my experience, use it as a way to initiate conversation again. My go to answer is to start talking about sports, workout routines or something stereotypically masculine and work your way up
