The struggle for suffrage was fought by both men and women. The majority of men who fought for Britain in WW1 did not have the right to vote.

Yeah, in Britain, women got the vote a mere 10 years after the general male population got it. And even more interesting: the very first iteration of democracy in Germany (Weimar republic) had women's suffrage from the start.
