As I mentioned in another comment, Laxer is a vehement opponent of men's rights. I disagree with almost everything he says.

However, I do have to say that almost all cabinet ministers are extremely unqualified. In Canada, there's always been an unwritten rule that you have to balance English-French, and regions BC-Prairies-Ontario-Quebec-Atlantic. Ideally First Nations and recent immigrants are represented. Basically cabinet appointments are not meritocratic now. Optics have always been the primary consideration. Competence was not of paramount importance. Requiring a 50-50 gender split is just more of the same. (And not any more offensive than 2 of 4 Albertan MPs being named to the cabinet simply to ensure decent representation from Alberta).

A 50-50 policy is a lot more problematic in meritocratic industries.

Ideally, the 50-50 cabinet will solidify the idea that women have just as much (or more) political power as men and that women and men are equally responsible for having created this society. Once this belief takes hold, the MRM agenda will hold greater appeal to the masses.

As a rule, I despise ignorance and making over-hasty judgments without giving a fair chance.

I stuck to that rule in this case, and thank God.

Why did you post this? Laxer is one of the most vocal critics of MRAs and was involved in attempting to stop CAFE talks at U of T.
