Hello. I am an Amherst College student. Yes, this Amherst College. There are a lot of stories that centralize around my small college of little more than 1800 students. I have created this throw away on a public computer out of fear, knowing that none of my peers (or myself) would want to risk administration knowing of strong political outcry to Sexual Misconduct on our campus.

The topic of this discussion is a talk that just took place at our college. It was of relatively short attendance, but was absolutely of the subject matter we discuss on this sub. Janet Halley of Harvard Law School came and spoke about finding middle ground with creating rules with regard to sexual misconduct. The room was quiet for much of it and I was afraid to breath. She denied rape culture. She denied the 1 in 5 statistic. She said administrators need to think with their hearts and remember that although a false negative in a sexual assault cause would be horrible, a false positive would ruin a life for a man and "set [him] down 5 pegs in class" after being removed from such a college. She also brought class into play: She said those who did not fight their college (she didn't bring up Amherst per-say) were ones who did not have the money to, those who's families didn't want to fight it or who didn't have family. In other words, as she said it, "your students of color." The room was dead still when she said that. Hispanic/black/color students would be the ones who don't fight back to false sexual assault accusations. Chew on that, friends.

So the point of this post: Amherst students who attended, make your throw-away accounts and give your thoughts. I want to know I am not alone in my quiet excitement to see this discussion taking place in a political ground-zero for false accusation from the recent law suit.
