It the old "unwanted sexual experience"/"sexual assault" switcheroo.

Students where asked about unwanted sexual experiences, not sexual assaults. Given that, of the experiences reported to be associated with the university, 45.5% wanted to forget it happened, and 41.7% felt is was a private matter, I'm going to say that a large proportion of these experiences were people making stupid choices and regretting it.

The university itself seems reluctant to highlight the finding that Inside Higher Ed featured prominently: only 5 percent of students reported having been sexually assaulted in the past year.

If you read the actual study summary, you see right away that this 5% number included ATTEMPTED sexual assault as well.

Ok, so 1 in 20 is still pretty high.

I think maybe a consent class at the beginning of the year for everyone just to tell all the students what the currently used definition of consent is, and to make sure you get it verbally if need be, and by text to prove it, just in case.

seriously, they should make sure guys get consent for the guys well being. and they should also teach girls to verbalise their no's (a tactic that reduced sexual assaults by 50%, meaning sexual assaults were girls who didn't know how to say no)

This way, guys are less likely to unknowingly sexually assault someone, good for the victim and the guy. Win win.

Lets not go down this road of supporting pseudo-science as arguments. A survey is hardly a credible source of evidence, it's an opinion piece at most.
