My boss is known in the department to be a sellout conniving cunt by many people who work/have worked directly under her, and people ask me all the time how I put up with her BS and way she treats her subordinates, as if her opinion is the only one that matters. I shrug and usually tell them it just doesn't bother me and it's fine. I used to just laugh to myself and think about what an idiot she is. In reality, things have gone downhill in the past 3 years I've worked for her and the department is worse off since the day she was promoted. Today I let it get to me, which really pissed me off.

Boss asked me to stop by her desk with regards to an email I had sent, which she was CC'd on. In so many words, she essentially told me that she wanted me to be less truthful in the way I worded things about possibly not being able to deliver X on Y date, so that other parties on the email would not question our group's performance. I literally almost lost it but I did the best I could to hold frame and just sort of went along with it. Everything she said was spoken in such a fake and mischievous way, clearly all about making herself look good to superiors, and it absolutely frustrated the hell out of me. In reality she is the most critical person of all of our team and nobody in the company ever questions our competence, nor the role we play. Let's just say my group has always been overloaded based on headcount and yet still performs a disproportional percentage of work essential to our company's bottom line. We pull double to triple our weight and then some. I was simply stating the facts because someone was asking; nobody was being critical of us, but she always takes it that way.

She does this all the time, and I frequently find her trying to silence me and project her own twisted fake version of the truth on myself and others in meetings, even when people know she is being fake/incompetent. The other people in my group, while competent, are typical corporate clown puppets who appear to have no vision outside the workplace and will do whatever it takes to make it. (This includes completely bowing down and taking it up the rear) if she criticizes them, asks for something completely irrational, or demands they do something bad for the company/customer/team's bottom line. Yet they're too scared to say a bad thing about her, like somebody's going to tattle. I refuse to subject myself to this type of corporate slavery, so I push back a little more than she likes and suggest reasonable alternatives to her irrational requests. I pay for it sometimes too (like on my last performance review, my 'leadership' skills were said to be lacking; LOL maybe by her definition). I exhibit a lead role on the team and am without a doubt the most experienced/skilled person on said team, and for the most part feel appreciated/praised for being a good leader by my team members.

So I basically suggested to her that from here on out she can handle responses herself to these type of emails if she doesn't like the truthful way I respond to them, and she happily agreed. I failed her shit test and felt that I lost frame and gave up power/responsibility, and above all sacrificed some respect/trust. I was literally so pissed when I got back to my desk I felt like I wanted to punch my computer screen out, but held it together. I popped my headphones in and didn't say a word to anyone the rest of the day. Tried to get a few things done but I was steaming inside and couldn't think straight.

Does this happen to any TRPers in the workplace? What tactics do you use to disallow corporate politics and drama from cracking your frame? How do you deal with a cunt boss who shit tests you constantly because you fight back for what's right for the company and customer, rather than personal agendas?
