The sole problem was not that they were white men. The problem is they are white knights. This is the logical result of telling men they have a moral obligation to help women mixed with racial protection of the time. People always say this was "racism mascaraing as chivalry", but it's equally probable that this is extreme perverted chivalry using racism of the era to defend itself.
