This being in India, I strongly suspect it's merely a caste issue. There are cases where high-caste men have committed blatant murder, mayhem, and rape, without even being arrested - much less prosecuted or convicted.

Merely another case of denying the fact that women are human beings who can make choices and that those choices have consequences. Well, I mean, when it's a bad choice of course.
