Unfortunately, it's really rather disgusting.

They throw around a statistic from a Crown Prosecution Service report stating that less than 1% of rape cases involve a false allegation. This implies that, during the 17 month period that the cases were taken from, of the 5,651 cases for rape, less than 1% were judged to be false allegations. That's not what the report says and you can read it for yourself here. At the bottom of page 3 and the top of page 4:

In the period of the review, there were 5,651 prosecutions for rape and 111,891 for domestic violence. During the same period there were 35 prosecutions for making false allegations of rape, 6 for making false allegation of domestic violence and 3 for making false allegations of both rape and domestic violence.

There is a startling difference between a rape case failing to reach a guilty verdict and an accuser being guilty of making a false allegation. In the case of Nigel Evans, his case would have been included in the 5,651 figure, yet, despite being found not guilty, his accusers wouldn't be included in the 35 figure.

If you continue to read, you'll find that, of the 121 cases referred to the CPS by the police regarding false rape allegation, only 35 ended up going to court. The report also fails to state how many of the 5,651 prosecutions led to a guilty verdict.
