Dateline: Disgusting female teacher claims she was raped as a defense. Blaming the victim? If a man did that he'd be metaphorically hanged.

The prosecutor and investigator both made known that they thought it was disgusting, calling it the "theater of the absurd".

The judge seems to have agreed. After declining what would have been a few months in prison and trying to blame the victim like she did she got an absolute minimum of 8 years instead.

The Dateline segment was...okay. They did give fair consideration to the view of the woman as a predator, I think, and discussed the double standard with regards to male vs. female predators as well. My biggest complaint would be the emphasis on trying to make this out to be some kind of exotic love story rather than an example of abuse, and the fact that they felt the need to show her half-naked picture after every commercial break. I also have a hard time imagining that a narrator would have continuously referred to a 15 year old female victim as a "young woman" rather than "girl" throughout the program, which by implying that he is a young adult rather than a child even subconsciously suggests that this is more of an inappropriate relationship and less of a crime.

Infinitely better than the recent Dr. Phil or SNL segments on the same issue, though.
