Girlfriend is having early contractions and I was sent out of the room because it's shared and the other patient is "uncomfortable with men around". Now I don't know what's going on at all, am I allowed to stay in the room? What should I tell the nurses?

Therefore it is our belief that the actions taken by the Calgary Expo staff were of a political nature and contravene the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, in particular freedom of conscience, freedom of thought and freedom of association.

Right, I'm not a lawyer of any sort, but I'm pretty sure you can't sue a private organisation for violating these freedoms - as the wikipedia article says "These freedoms can be held against actions of all levels of government and are enforceable by the courts."

It needs to be gone over thoroughly in court. The discussion will be more illuminating than your guesswork.

Reading over the story of what happened, I would like to know if the Expo and suchlike events in Canada have a "duty of care" style responsibility to their attendees. They certainly seem to have failed the Honey Badgers when it comes to their safety.

But for that, we need Canadian legal professionals.

Perhaps someone should have consulted with anyone with legal know-how before donating ten thousand dollars.

consulted with anyone with legal know-how

And how could that be paid for, I wonder?

At least, your advice is free.

Sure you can sue a private organization since there was a purchasing agreement and costs involved. They paid to have a booth there and were removed because of discrimination.

A slightly different example would be if you have a job with a private company and they found out you posted something positive on an MRA and fired you. That would be discrimination as well and you are well within your rights to seek legal action.

edit: Maybe a better example would be you walking into a McDonalds and ordering and paying for a burger. Then you and your friend are talking about men's rights and them ejecting you from the building because of discrimination without giving you your burger or your money back.
