The man plead to first degree murder; the woman plead to second degree murder. That is the reason for the difference, not their genders.

Without knowing more facts about the case, we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

There's plenty to be vocal about without manufacturing outrage. There's no outrage here - given everything I read, the sentences are entirely appropriate.

One was charged with 1st degree, the other was charged with 2nd degree, which carry different sentences because they are different crimes.
