When a crazy young man kills Jews we blame the White supremacist group he follows (rightly so) so when a crazy young woman kills her male children because she follows feminism, shouldn't we blame feminism?

Can any defenders of the idea that feminism is "nice" explain to me why feminists advocate for genocide of men so often that they've had to shorten the phrase "Kill All Men" to it's initials, "KAM"?

Impostor syndrome is a real thing - I've had to deal with it myself in my career. But for someone to set themselves up as an amateur armchair psychologist and remote-diagnose a stranger with it is very patronizing.

[–]differentiallity 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Also stupid how they only discuss it in terms of affecting women when impostor syndrome affects just about everyone

[–]csgardner 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thank you, that bugged me throughout the article.
Actually, "impostor syndrome" is so common, NOT having it probably either means you're overqualified for your job, or you're a megalomaniac.

[–]ezetemp 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, the difference seems to be that some don't realize that pretty much everyone is winging it.

I don't know if it's always been that way, if it's different in some fields, or if everything is simply changing so fast by now that if you ever stay still long enough to get comfortable with truly being an expert at something and knowing all about what you do, then you've probably stagnated and should have moved on and expanded long ago. Or worse, you may only be feeling comfortable because you know everything that was in the textbooks... 20 years ago. Which means someone who spends ten minutes googling may actually be more qualified than you.

I'm not sure it's possible to make an objective judgement about those issues and yourself in relation to others so maybe the only way is to accept, with some scepticism, the judgement of others. If they think you're qualified enough... well, you might think you're faking, but you're probably winging it better than the other candidates...

Beyond that it's simply stupid to jump to such a conclusion about a 25 year old. She IS under-qualified. That's a daily show 5 days a week almost year round. It's an enormous amount of work and you probably aren't going to be qualified by the age of 25. To even jump to the conclusion, under any circumstance really, that she must be experiencing a syndrome to feel this way at 25 is just asinine.

At 25, thinking you're unprepared for such a massive job is a rational response, not a syndrome induced delusion.

People have been reporting this post because it links directly to Slate.

We don't have a rule against linking directly to sites like Slate, and there are no plans to make one.

However, posters who don't want to be reported may wish to consider using archive.today links instead.

i'm sure you changed her changed her mind, & she will renounce her feminism. /s

I guess I don't agree with that form of protest.

you are giving an anti-male website advertising revenue by linking to them because everyone on reddit will click on the link. you are enabling their hate.

no. all that matters is pageviews, even if it's hate-pageviews. it just encourages them to write more hate, because it equals more profit.

[–]MaestroLogical 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agree or not, it seems geared to become standard operating procedure around here, so leave your personal feelings aside and stop direct linking to such sites.

[–]dangerousopinions -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Slate has published pretty balanced articles as often as they haven't. It's not like buzzfeed or the guardian.

[–]DavidByron2[S] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So doing something so common they named it ("impostor syndrome") is OK to do to other women, but when it's done to a feminist and she complains, well then that's "misogyny".

Jessica will at some point in the future become instrumental in the dismantling of "young radicalism" among millennials. She already shows unwillingness to accept being given the victim card to play at a whim when the going gets rough, and by openly going after the person putting her on a pedestal Jessica demonstrates a mainstream push-back against call-out-culturettes ( SJWs )

[–]dangerousopinions 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Huh?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4sgHJh3eKk

She has embraced it quite a bit.

[–]CountVonVague -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

lol are you kidding? the examples used for ppl who think "men are being trodden on" are hyperbole or simple propaganda because this is a comedy show ( it Makes Fun Of the news, it does not Report The News ). Jessica throws in real world footage of passe stuff that happens on the streets of Manhattan and then cuts to a room full women going through a reverse-therapy session who all want to be living in a place where the people & culture suit their dispositions.

All of this is essentially made fun of by Jessica, i bet that board with all the tacks in it was set up beforehand or something for kicks and video quality! yeah, she's aight. ;D

[–]dangerousopinions 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Are you kidding?

I genuinely don't think you got the joke at all. The whole thing opens up with a sarcastic "some people think women have it great!" and attempts to play on the assumed absurdity of that statement. Except it's not an absurd statement, so the whole thing isn't funny; typical feminist comedy.

This should have been painfully clear when she draws the map of the route she has to take to avoid being catcalled and then again when she predicts only one or two other women experience this and then it's a whole room plus STO on a scissor lift.

You're living in the twilight zone if you think that this joke was making fun of the absurd complaints of feminists or making light of catcalling.

[–]CountVonVague -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Well then, from the twilight zone it looks a bit different! The winding route she draws is too absurd and over the top to be taken seriously while at the same time demonstrating how women will go well out of their way to avoid a single stretch of road. I genuinely don't know where the room full of women came from but i'll guess that it was some kind of open call for those who have experienced harassment in the manhattan area.

"Some people think women have it great!" is a sarcastic hook meant to get listeners into a mood to be joyfully annoyed at whatever idiot happens to be ignoring women's woes at the moment, yeah i get that duh. But bringing in a bunch of women and having them all say at the same time "..no you cannot shit on my chest." ? Pure. Comedy. Gold. what even is feminist comedy idek

The mockery is between the lines, under the obvious "hey look look, let's laugh at misogyny deniers!! yeah we'll show you what the real problem is!!" Like, come on, Jessica is just a correspondent reporter for a comedy news show. it's completely funny and you must be living under terrible clouds if you don't see that

[–]dangerousopinions 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You're adding a whole layer to this bit that doesn't exist.

The walking route was to mock the "women have it pretty great!" idea and so was the room full of people she jokingly didn't anticipate. The whole schtick is based on the idea that women are down trodden and saying they're not is comical. It's not some 10 layer deep joke where you have to read between the lines.

[–]anobaith 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A feminist is a feminist. Feminism is, and has always been, a female supremacist hate movement. The only thing that has changed, is their ability to harm the male gender.
