It doesn't matter, think of it as making an investment. Sure your SMV takes a down turn in the short run, but in the long run, your return on investment is huge and your SMV will be significantly higher than before you had them.

I've had braces for the past two years and still have them on right now, getting them removed in two weeks. It's not that big of a deal, the majority of people once had them and they know what it was like. Chances are no one even takes notice of them.
