Hey, so this post was prompted by a discussion I had with a friend the other day. I was saying that mostly young boys but also men in post-secondary education are discriminated against in education. I pointed out the disparities in drop out rates, and post-secondary enrollment. My friends just said "well young boys need to work harder", and that he didn't think the disparites in education are an important issue. I asked him if it would be a problem if the numbers were flipped, and he said of course that would be a crisis caused by discrimination of women, but basically boys and men just need to work harder. I also asked him if in the past girls and women were victims of a masculanised education system, and he said of course. When I asked him if it was possible that boys and men were victims of a feminised education system he said no, boys just need to work harder. I was blown away.

So what I'd like are some sources that show the differences, as well as any discrimination that can be found against boys and men in education. I'm looking myself, but I was hoping some people here could help me out. I am looking for studies or researched numbers or trends. What I'm not looking for are articles or youtube videos with people giving their opinions on statistics. For example although I like Christina Hoff Summers videos on this subject very much, that's not the type of source I'm looking for it's her opinion and interpretation of a source. Of course any article or video that has a cited source is welcome.

Also to note, I would like for this thread to be limited to information only. I like and respect my friend a lot and any rants or insults directed towards him will not be kindly received. Nobody is perfect, you or myself included, and I'm looking to go back to him with researched statistics. Also, I would ask that posts containing complaints about the education system or personal anecdotes that don't come with information be avoided as well. I agree with most things that will be said about the education system, and I respect your experiences, but I need cold hard numbers and facts. I'm having trouble finding the exact information I need myself. So, if you can, please help out.

Thanks.
