I think one of the reasons 498a has got a lot of attention about it's false accusations is that it can easily effect women as well as men, since the law applies to the entire family of the husband who is falsely accused.

This is one of the new feminist laws that reverses the presumption of innocence btw.

"Where any person is prosecuted for taking or abetting the taking of any dowry under Sec. 3, or the demanding of dowry under Sec. 4, the burden of proving that he had not committed an offence under those sections shall be on him."

Also looks like the feminist stasi on wikipedia might have overlooked this stuff.

it's unfortunate that the article doesn't say how many cases there are altogether per year out of which the government figures at least 10,000 are false.
