I'm the guy who posted the other day trying to give a domain name away. I just couldn't handle writing all of the content myself and it takes an emotional toll too. Someone in the comments suggested putting it on GitHub pages so that people can contribute that way, plus it'll be open source, which is great. So I decided to give it a try before parting with the project. The idea of doing it this way actually gave brought back some excitement and motivation!

What do you do with that repo I just linked? Create a GitHub account and fork my repo, so that you'll have a copy of it on your own account. Then you edit or add pages. Then you submit a "pull request", which is like saying, "I want the changes I made on my copy to be included in the official copy". If I approve the changes (just submit small ones/one file at a time), it'll be live on the website about 5 seconds after I merge.

Pages are written in Markdown rather than HTML, which is very similar to the way Reddit lets you format comments, like two returns for a new paragraph. If you know how to make a link or bold text on Reddit, you'll be fine. The README on the GitHub page gives information about how to contribute if you're not already familiar with GitHub. It also gives guidelines. One thing just about everyone suggested in the last post was to keep the focus on the MRM, and avoid ranting about feminism and double standards. Just state the issue; don't compare. So that's an example of a guideline. Keep things straight and to the point.

By "information-only", I mean the site will not be for current events, blogs, or forums. It will be a straight forward info site, and written as well as any professional organization's site, such as eff.org or un.org. I'm hoping it could become a stable and reliable source for a student's research paper one day or where the media goes to figure out what MRM actually is when writing about it. There will be a severe lack of fedoras and cartoon ponies on the website... heh.

An idea for contributors is to go through this subreddit's FAQ and rehash and format some of the ideas. Content is the main priority. The site could use a redesign to work better on mobile browsers, but there's no sense doing it there's no content.

If the GitHub process is too difficult for you, but you still want to help or you noticed a spelling error or anything along those lines, feel free to email a Word or Google Doc to me at [email protected], and I'll see about manually pushing the updates myself. You can also do this if you'd rather not have MRM stuff showing up on your GitHub account.
