This letter was the Germans' defence for their execution of a female-nurse that aided the Allies in escaping (a common punishment for that crime). This event caused a huge international backlash because she was a woman, and boosted recruitment

TLDR: One man dies for aiding his country... "meh". One woman dies for the same thing, "GET YOUR HOCKEY STICKS BOYS WE GOTTA GET THESE SONS OF BITCHES!"
