I think this is valid but it applies to anyone other than professionals., Mother,Sister ,friend doesn't matter what sex..Medical professionals are trained through experience to react to people in pain in a neutral non escalating way..Their responsive but not in a that can induce patients to overly focus on their own discomfort..Pain is a feedback loop and seeing your pain mirrored in others that are compassionate to your suffering can sometimes make things worse..Especially with acute pain..Chronic pain involves more emotional components and therefore more emotional intervention is needed.You can see the difference in the nurses interact with patients during an acute injury/illness vs inward, nursing home or recovery environment.
