I can't speak for Spain but here in Germany joint custody is meaningless. It just means that I have to pay and get to see the kids two weekends a month and two weeks in Summer.

Under previous legislation, in 2013, mothers got custody in 76.2% of the cases, fathers in 5.5% of the cases, and joint custody was ruled in 17.9% of the cases.
