I wondered about the equality in the government equality department today, since there tends to be some irony in what you can find.

Two thirds of employees in the equality department are women, and they're paid on average 7.7% more than the male employees.

And here is their 'mission statement':

The Government Equalities Office (GEO) is responsible for equality strategy and legislation across government. We work to take action on the government’s commitment to remove barriers to equality and help to build a fairer society, leading on issues relating to women, sexual orientation and transgender equality.

So fair, much equal. /s

Seems the only way a man can get any help is to pretend to be (or actually be) trans or gay!

Would appreciate comments on any of the links on the government website linked above, it seems like women deserve help being entrepreneurs (I'm a small business owner, where's my mentor then?? I apparently don't deserve one!), and only women matter when it comes to reducing violence, despite men being two thirds of victims of violence in the UK.

The link to a piece about setting up a fund to end the 'pay gap' is particularly telling; the subtitle reads:

The fund will help women move from low paid, low skilled work to high paid, high skilled work to help tackle the gender pay gap.

So, there is no pay gap... they admit that the issue is women are doing low skilled jobs, not that they are paid any less for the same work.

The link to a piece announcing a 'body image toolkit' manages to at least have a man in the picture (well, his head, not his body) but go to the page and you will find one sentence about men and boys, which then goes into stating that women and girls are so much more affected. Which is arguable but again men and boys are marginalised deliberately by the apparent greater need to make girls and women feel good about themselves.

I can't even believe this department exists and publishes this stuff, sanctioned and backed by the government. It is really, really depressing...

I'm only posting this just in case you didn't already know about what equality really means to the government of the united kingdom. Now you do.

EDIT: Lol, and "Women's Entrepreneurship Day" is on...anyone guess which date? 19th November, International Men's Day! We don't even get to have one single day to ourselves. http://www.womenseday.org/ I wonder if the clash is mere coincidence....
