'There's no excuse' campaign

No excuses, A campaign has been launched to warn muslims who assault homosexuals that they are committing a crime.

It points out that such behaviour is not only unwelcome and unacceptable, but it constitutes assault which is a serious crime.

The campaign, run by the Citysafe Partnership, says: 'There’s no excuse…don’t punch, kick, stab, cut' and states that claims such as 'it was only a bit of fun' are completely unacceptable.

As part of the campaign, bar and door staff in Liverpool city centre are being given training to help them spot instances of violence, offer support to victims and ensure issues are reported.

The way the poster is designed and the way the laws are written is all gender-neutral, yet the document to announce it specifically refers to men. Funny that.

I was "titty groped" recently.

was standing, minding my own business, when a woman nudged me with her tits. I turned and looked at her and apologized, thinking perhaps it was my fault, who knows. she acted like nothing happened, not even acknowledging the apology, and so I left it at that. but I still moved away about a foot or so to prevent any further accidental contact.

a minute later I felt her tits up against my arm again, and at that point I got nervous and looked around thinking it was a setup or something, and walked away a good distance.

was I bothered? not really. felt violated? not even sure what that means. I think guys feel irritation, anger, and vengeful; "violated" is somewhat of a foreign concept. why waste your time feeling violated when you can track the person down and kick their ass.

Why is everybody so hard on sex? It's assault and/or battery. Who cares what they were thinking about when they did it? Thinking about sex is not a crime, invading space and unnecessary contact is. The only other issues is whether the contact was incidental or not.

Here is the full text of the reply to my complaint from Liverpool City Council.

Dear Mr .................

Following my initial response to your complaint sent to you on Tuesday 14th October; please find below a full response to your comments regarding the campaign ‘There’s No Excuse’ being aimed at men, and not both men and women.

I do appreciate your point that inappropriate touching is something that happens to both men and women in the Night Time Economy. In terms of this current campaign to raise awareness of the issue, the campaign was launched following concerns from a number of strategic groups across Liverpool on the issue of inappropriate and unwanted touching taking place against young women from young men. To support this, Merseyside Police data analysis has shown that the breakdown of reported sexual assaults in the city centre (including inappropriate sexual touching) are 86% female and 14% male. Further data from SAFEPlace Merseyside (the sexual assault referral centre based in Liverpool city centre) where both male and female victims of sexual assault and rape can receive help and advice shows that 96% of all cases were females. This information highlighted that the majority of known victims were female.

This does not address the issue of unreported offences, and I take on board your comments about males also being victims, however this campaign is based on information and trends that the partnership has been asked to act upon.

There is an appreciation that this offence isn’t just about the perpetrators being young males, but at this point in the campaign the focus has been on this group as a starting point, and one that causes the most concern based on reported offences. As an early stage of a phased ‘ongoing’ campaign, the purpose is to start raising general awareness of this issue with this key target group. The aim is also to focus on initial behavioural change, i.e. to start to change people’s understanding of what sexual assault is; what it constitutes and the fact that it is a criminal offence. Further phases will be introduced in the future but only after consultation and evaluation of the campaign taking place with both young males and females who frequent the Night Time Economy (NTE). We want to explore their views on the campaign in terms of its message in order for the partnership to look to develop the next phase of the campaign where we want users of the NTE to have a greater understanding of the issue of unwanted and inappropriate touching.

The words in the poster are gender neutral. I would be surprised if it was just targeted at men. I would say women grope men as much as men grope women.

I have had a look at the posters and they are gender neutral.

Show me one that is not gender neutral and I will get on to the council!
