Well, specifically, marathons. I am an avid triathlete, usually start training in February and do my events through August. There is a women-only marathon this week that, while I'm not actually interested in running, I tried to apply for to stir up some trouble. I wasn't rude about it and the woman who was handling registration was very polite and offered me a position handing out Gatorade with "the other men" instead. The race isn't a competition, there is a raffle before the race for concert tickets but there is no prize for winning the marathon itself.

And after searching for other races like this, they're all over. Most cities that have a general marathon will also have a women-only marathon, celebrating "the strength, perseverance and courage of women". IT seems like most end up letting men run too if they try, however.

So, questions: Is this legal? Or does it count as some "women are at a competitive disadvantage" bull? And how do they determine which activities women are at a competitive disadvantage to men? Are there any activities men are considered to have a competitive disadvantage to women?
