I was being disingenuous I'm afraid. Your last sentence is by far one of the most accurate statements I've seen on this sub. Statistics are great, but they only get us so far in understanding how power works. Race, gender, class, and many other factors all work together to produce an essentially ineffable force we call power. My point in being disingenuous was to show that it isn't so black and white, pardon the pun. To many people around here seem to lock on to gender as if it can explain everything, and they rely on a positivistic, quantitative framework to analyze the mechanics of gender; but that's not how society and power work. Statistics are great and do help us understand, but I can't help but think how different this sub would be if it relied on hermeneutics and social theory more.
