Crosspost "You're not a "survivor" of sexual assault unless you were physically touched." from /r/TrueUnpopularOpinion:

As a assault survivor who was forcibly penetrated I am tired of finding myself in spaces designed to support people like me where someone speaks up and says "I too am a survivor, some guy said I had a nice ass at a bar as I walked past" or "I am a survivor, I get cat-called from moving vehicles all the time."

As a woman I would never say their experiences are invalid or they do not have the right to be angry about them. All sexual misconduct is inappropriate and reprehensible but when someone just finished saying they were forcibly penetrated after having their drink tampered with at a party, if you open your mouth to compare your experience of being whistled at or cat called to that, then that is just offensive to me. You are not a "survivor" because you didn't survive anything, there was no violence to survive. You do not belong in safe spaces designed for people who are sexual assault survivors.
