Hey guys. A lot of interest on my past post about a union for men undergoing seperation, divorce and other things. Thank you for the interest.
For the record, I myself am not divorced, but am in a cold marriage, and am a foreigner "trapped" in an eastern european country. I am heavily disadvantaged in many ways. I am aware of this. I am angry and hurt. I am voiceless. But I am not alone.
The popular resources out there fail us, as a group. We don't want to join a walking tour, or a paint by numbers club. We don't need extra hobbies. Sure, those things help--but ultimately, it is about having resources, outreach, community, and advice that's centrally located, friendly, and worthwhile. We also don't need to shit on women. Modern Corporate Feminism has done a number on what it means to be a man today, but ultimately, being dragged into the fight about culture is a worthless and senseless one. What we need is tax and alimony advice. Friendship. Awareness. Political lobbying power--the kind that the AARP or the NRA or Renters Unions have. That veteran organizations have. The kind that says to congressmen and women--we are a group of millions, and we need help. We need care.
There are, at a pinch, 150 million divorced men out there. At least 50 million of which are in the US. 80% of custody cases go to women. Men often lose up to 40% in living standard, and divorced men are 39% more likely to attempt or idealize suicide. 2x more likely to have depression and other disorders. 70% of cases don't end in a 50/50 split, with advantages going to women commonly. How is this fair when we have supposedly reached wage equality? We know our own stories, and how so many guys out there aren't given a second chance. Or are labelled as abusers. Or are negatively seen by other women out there. Society judges men who have undergone divorce differently.
Here's how I think I can help start this, with help from all of us here. I've been in a couple of unions, student groups, and I know other organizers. Unfortunately, most of the organizing scene is left leaning--which makes this difficult. There's a sort of on-ramp to this; I don't pretend to have done this before. We gather a small group, a couple of AMAs and open doors, and we make newsletters and community pages on social media.
The end goal here is to make something much bigger--something that can speak back to unfair alimony laws, a lack of healthcare for middleaged men, and can speak up with authority about lonliness and poverty in men. I am tired of women consistently saying they deserve so many protections, and wage equality and so on, when statistics show that men suffer a hell of a lot too. I want to do this fairly and openly--no course selling, no Andrew Tate shit, no culture wars. No hate--only friendship, truth, and support.
We all know that masculinity in the west is in a crisis. It is time that we show, bit by bit, that men are not the villians that feminism paints us to be. Boys need to grow up knowing that whatever happens--if they've done nothing wrong, they don't deserve to be painted as villians.
Comment below if interested, and your rough area of expertise, and a suggested name for this community. I am a lawyer and a sociologist, and also head a small campaign and data analytics startup. I know that we have officers, trainers, lawyers and teachers here. Let's turn the tide.
I'll send out an open meeting to everyone interested, and also start a discord.
