I received a notice that I owed $9,000+ in arrears when after the separation no child support was established. The child was 16 at the time and is now 18. At the hearing I asked why I wasn’t notified and nobody including the Judge could provide me an answer. So I was made to repay $9000 that I wasn’t even aware of. Apparently Texas initiated it not the mother. They take all my income taxes every year. Long story short I was down to $3,300 and ended up with a $11k return. I was under the assumption they would take the $3300 and I’d be finished since the child is grown. They never applied ANY of the return to the support but the IRS says it was sent. They say they never got it… any advice on how to recover the $3300?
