It varies too widely to give you a good answer. Mine was amicable and we used a mediator. We filed for legal separation 2 weeks after our decision to divorce (first meeting with mediator) and our divorce was final 3 months after that. Where I live requires a 3 month separation if you have kids and that was the only reason it took that long. So, for me, 3.5 months and a total legal bill (that was split) of $5k.
