First, I want to thank the users of this forum who helped me in the first few days of me finding out about my wife's infidelity. You gave me a guide when my brain and body were fried. I formally filed a week to the day of finding out, and that would have been the day after had it been possible.
Wife asked me to work it out, and initially I agreed. I want to do right by my kids, and initially thought that may be best for them. After mulling it over for a couple of days, I told her this morning that it was in no way going to be a possibility. She has tried to make excuses, and still has feelings for her fling. I told her I was not ever going to be an option for somebody, and that she was no longer an option for me. My kids are under the age of 12 and I have spoken with them and explained that this is not my doing and that I never wanted this for them, but that I also feel that I am setting a bad example by allowing this to happen to myself and staying with their mother.
She has agreed to joint physical custody and a 50/50 split week here week wherever she ends up. She has also agreed to what I have offered. That may change, and we may have to do a little battling, but she is foolish if she does.
I want you guys to know what a relief it is to get this done and start a path forward. I made her transfer all of her stuff into her name tonight. Cell phone, online accounts, etc. Monday we go to the bank and split the balance. I am going scorched earth and cutting her out of ever aspect of my personal life that I can. I am allowing her to stay at the house in a spare bedroom for the time being. Thats more for the kids, and I am watching myself and her. I am, however, making her rent a storage space and begin taking items of hers that I do not want and making sure they are documented and receipted.
Those of you who are new, it really sucks in the first few days, but stay focused as best you can. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. You have a lot to offer, don't ever forget that. Stay positive, it is scary navigating unknown waters, but think of the opportunity and adventure that awaits. It is true it could be worse, but it could also be so much better and healthier in the long run. Focus on you, and your kids if you have them. Lean on friends and family, they will be a tremendous help. Get to know yourself again, grow, and come out of this a better person. I'm not all the way there yet, but I am on my way.
