New to this sub because I have finally had it. Like so many others here I am finding myself in a difficult situation -- belittling, angry wife and difficult kids -- and I have (after thinking about it for three years) resolved to chart a course out of this.

The endgame I am going for is an amicable divorce and ongoing amicable co-parenting with continued financial entaglement (we own a couple of houses together and it would be foolish to liquidate them; we have a good 2 decade track record of working together financially and I trust her in that regard). I would love it if we both lived nearby in the same town and the kids flowed freely between our places.

So a question: what are some first steps for me to consider?
